Andreas Rier
Glass · b. 1995, Bolzano, Italy
Andreas Rier was born in Bolzano, South Tyrol, in 1995. He trained in industrial design specialising in glass and ceramics at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule in Halle (BA 2021), where he is now doing a master's in ceramic and glass design. He has worked as an assistant at the hot-glass furnace at Studio Comploj in Vienna and with Torsten Rötsch, and earlier with the sculptor Othmar Prenner.
His work sits between art, design and craft, moving freely from sculpture to everyday object. Glass is at the centre, mouth-blown and free-formed, alongside porcelain, wood and silver. In 2023 the Grassi Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Leipzig acquired his glass object Dough for its permanent collection. He has exhibited at Galerie Handwerk in Munich, the Grassimesse in Leipzig, Paris Design Week and the Fuorisalone in Milan.
