Daniel Costa

Wool · Brixen, Italy

Daniel Costa is a South Tyrolean artist, designer and photographer, born in Brixen and based in Schlanders in the Vinschgau valley. He studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven, graduating cum laude in 2012, with a focus on ceramics and textile. He then spent five years in Paris as creative assistant to the trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort, travelling, teaching and working across textile, image and creative consulting, and photography became part of his practice there.

In 2018 he left to build his own path, following fibre to India and Nepal. There, working with local spinners and weavers and with yak farmers in the high Himalayas, he developed LUM, his first collection of hand-spun, hand-woven rugs in raw yak wool, Tibetan sheep wool, nettle, goat hair and silk. He has lived and worked in South Tyrol again since 2021. His textile works, such as A Mountain and Still Life with Jug and Fork, combine wool and nettle with ceramic and larch wood. In 2025 he curated +/- Folk, a three-part exhibition across the St. Veit church, Bunker 5 and Bunker 23 in Vinschgau.
